Action Button in iPhone 15 Pro gets a new function

Apple has released the beta version of iOS 17.2, which confirms the arrival of several new features. One of them is the new Action Button feature in the iPhone 15 Pro. It can be useful for users abroad or simply when communicating with foreigners.

When Apple announced the iPhone 15 Pro, it promised 10 settings for this button. However, one of these features, namely Translate, was not available when the series launched. However, already in the beta version of iOS 17.2, the ability to use this function through the Action Button has finally become available.

When you select Translate as the function for the Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro, a subsequent press of the button will trigger a translation session, and this happens in Dynamic Island, not in the translation app itself. This makes the process a little faster and easier. The phone then starts listening to the text to be translated and translates the recognized languages into the language of your choice based on the settings you previously set in the Translate app. This is possible thanks to the Neural Engine in the iPhone.

Other Action Button functions include turning silent mode on or off (by default), opening the Camera or Magnifier app, starting focus mode, turning on the flashlight, and recording voice memos. Despite this list of capabilities, the button is still somewhat limited in that it can only perform one action at a time.

In addition to adding a new feature, iOS 17.2 also confirms Apple's plans to update those iPhones still sitting in their boxes in stores. The code in iOS 17.2 points to an external device that can transfer the firmware wirelessly. This confirms Mark Gurman's earlier report that Apple is using its own device that can push the latest software updates to the phone if placed on top of the iPhone box.
